Centro Escolar University Faculty and Allied Workers Union (CEU FAWU) teachers and staff held a “silent protest” this week. This was the union’s response to the administration’s refusal to uphold an acceptable collective bargaining agreement (CBA) for 2025-2030.
In protest, union members attached stickers on their clothing calling for decent pay increases, passage promotion of the CBA, and other teacher and employee rights. CEU students led by Anakbayan-CEU Manila expressed support for the protest.
On October 2, CEU FAWU filed a Notice of Strike with the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB). This was after the CBA negotiations deadlocked on September 25. The negotiation did not reach an agreement on where to source the funding for all the benefits and rights sought in the CBA.
The CEU FAWU proposal estimates requiring about ₱285 million to cover the salary and benefits demanded by the teachers and staff. They find the administration’s ₱15 million counter-offer not acceptable.
Anakbayan-CEU Manila expressed support for the planned strike. They stated that the CEU administration must acknowledge that without the non-academic staff, the university would cease operations.
