The International League of Peoples’ Struggle (ILPS) regional committee in Europe strongly condemned the intensifying attacks against the people of Rojava that began in the last weeks of January. It urged the peoples of the world to take a stand against the collusion of the imperialist US, Turkey, and Zionist Israel, which are carrying out a brutal campaign of suppression in northern and eastern Syria, also known as Rojava. The committee described the offensive as “a severe and escalating campaign of violence, displacement, and collective punishment” in full disregard for civilian life and basic human dignity. It warned of the looming large-scale massacre of the Kurdish people.
In its statement, ILPS Europe emphasized that the January attacks on Rojava align with the political and military objectives of the powerful states in the region and their imperialist masters. It said, “Kurdish communities, alongside other ethnic and religious groups, are being systematically targeted through military assaults, sieges, intimidation, and terror.” The group pointed out that this is within the project of the US and its allies to overthrow the Assad government, build a pro-Western system and use proxies such as Al-Jolani to advance their sinister plans.
ILPS Europe denounced the US’ duplicitous use of the Kurds during its anti-ISIS campaign. “The US used the Kurds as tactical allies against ISIS so they could secure their military presence and legitimacy in the region, contain the Kurdish revolution’s socialist orientation, and apply pressure on the Russia–Iran bloc,” the committee explained. It added that reports of massacres, the release of detained ISIS elements, and widespread violence against civilians, especially women, “betrays the true character of the US-backed Al-Jolani–led puppet regime and the forces operating under its command.” This proves that “a large-scale massacre of the Kurdish population is looming and the risk of further atrocities is urgent,” it said.
ILPS linked the Rojava offensive to the broader US-Zionist-Turkish strategy for domination in West Asia. “The war against the people of Rojava continues the long-standing cooperation among the US, Zionist Israel, and Turkey, which has relied heavily on proxy forces and destabilization campaigns to inflame ethnic conflicts, destroy people’s unity, weaken, and crush democratic resistance,” its statement said. It also emphasized that from Nagorno-Karabakh to Syria, one can see the same “pattern of strategic coordination,” masked by the false tensions between Turkey and Israel aimed at deceiving public opinion and undermining genuine mass uprisings.
ILPS Europe asserted that even US spokespersons themselves admit that the supposed conflict between Turkey and Zionist Israel is “mere rhetoric.” The committee said, “This reveals a unified imperial strategy,” in which Trump’s so-called ‘Board of Peace’ serves as a mechanism to strengthen their coordination in suppressing peoples resisting occupation and imposing a brutal restructuring of the region.
ILPS Europe also sharply denounced European governments for colluding in the offensive by funding and supporting regimes and armed groups involved in the attacks and massacres of the Kurdish people.
ILPS Europe called on the international community to break the silence and act in solidarity with Rojava. “There is no neutrality in the face of the on-going massacres,” the committee declared. It urged “all peoples who value freedom” to stand in defense of Rojava against “imperialist instigated wars of aggression for the continuing plunder and destabilization of West Asia.” It also praised the “heroism and courage” of the Kurdish people, especially the women defenders who “are organizing militant resistance to protect their communities against imperialist-backed incursions into their territories.”
ILPS Europe emphasized that the people of Rojava urgently and greatly need “all forms of support and international solidarity” as they courageously defy the violence unleashed by the US and its accomplices in the region.
