Marco Valbuena | Chief Information Officer | Communist Party of the Philippines
The Party denounces the US-Marcos regime for its plan to sign a Status of Visiting Forces Agreement, a military agreement with New Zealand. This will allow the unrestricted entry of New Zealand military troops into the country, in violation of the sovereignty of the Philippines.
As with similar agreements the Philippines has with the US, Australia, and Japan, this agreement with New Zealand is being pushed by the US within the framework of its Indo-Pacific Strategy. The US aims to use the Philippines as a rest and recreation area for foreign troops, stockpiling weapons, and as a launchpad for its operations. This further hinders the Filipino people’s desire to peacefully resolve conflicts with China and achieve stable peace in the region.
This new agreement will serve the purpose of intensifying US military operations, military exercises, and war games in the Asia-Pacific surrounding China. The US is dragging more and more countries into this strategy. All these serve to exacerbate military tensions and raise the danger of igniting an armed conflict in the region.
It is disgusting how all this saber-rattling by the US and increasing military presence are being positively portrayed by Marcos and his officials in the media. What they do not mention is how the overwhelming presence of so many naval ships, warplanes, missiles, and other weapons, as well as US troops around and within the Philippines, increases the danger of miscalculations. And how such an armed conflict between the US and China would undoubtedly bring grievous harm and suffering to the country and the Filipino people.
