Ang Bayan Ngayon » Migrants held worldwide protest on Philippines’ sham Independence Day

Led by Bagong Alyansang Makabayan and Migrante, Filipino migrants and immigrants in their host countries staged protests on June 12 to voice the various issues facing Filipinos and expose the country’s real conditions.

Thousands of Filipinos in the US joined the Philippine Independence Day Parade in New York City. BAYAN USA and Migrante USA joined the parade carrying calls for justice for caregivers, as well as for the Negros 19. They also denounced corruption in the Philippines.

BAYAN USA Northeast also protested outside the Philippine consulate in New York City.

The Tanggol Migrante Movement in San Diego, California on that day called for the release of Kuya Richard from the Otay Mesa Detention Center. Kuya Richard is a Filipino migrant who was baselessly detained in the facility because of the Trump regime’s anti-migrant policy.

With Filipino communities in Melbourne, Australia, groups protested at the Philippine consulate to condemn the US-Marcos regime’s entry into the Pax Silica scheme and the continuing US war of aggression and militarism in the Asia-Pacific region. Bayan Australia also called holding Sara Duterte accountable and condemned the delay of the impeachment trial.

In Hong Kong, United Filipinos–Migrante-HK protested at the Philippine consulate in the Central District. The group said celebrating the 128th anniversary of Philippine independence is a major contradiction amid US imperialist control remaining in the country.

Migrante South Korea and Migrante Thailand also expressed their solidarity.
