[Utrecht, 07 December] The New Communist Party of the Netherlands (NCPN) handed over this week a generous donation to boost the recovery and rehabilitation efforts of Philippine communities devastated by Supertyphoon Haiyan in November 2013.

Maarten Muis of the NCPN met with Philippine revolutionaries Luis G. Jalandoni, Chief International Representative of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and Coni K. Ledema, NDFP International Information Office, and handed over their donations. Muis explained that these were collected from members of the NCPN and readers of their monthly publication Manifest.

“This act of solidarity will help the self-reliant efforts of the people’s organizations in Haiyan-affected areas,” said Jalandoni in receiving the envelope from Muis. “Heartfelt thanks to Manifest readers and NCPN members!”

The Dutch and Philippine revolutionary leaders had a short discussion about the ongoing community efforts for recovery and rehabilitation. They expressed their concern about the possible damages that Typhoon Hagupit will wreak on the communities still struggling from last year’s disaster.

Muis gave his assurance that the NCPN will continue to support the rehabilitation efforts and publish stories on the Philippine situation in Manifest.

“People to people solidarity is heartily welcomed to support the self-reliant and heroic efforts of the Haiyan-affected communities,” added Ledesma.

Jalandoni concluded, “May this generous act of solidarity lead to further strengthening of the bonds of cooperation between the working class of The Netherlands and the proletariat and people in the Philippines.”
