US imperialism is the number one enemy of the working people. The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) commends the Filipino working class movement for raising the anti-imperialist call not only for its own liberation but for the liberation of the whole country and as contribution to the liberation of the working class of the world.
Today, Labor Day, had been chosen to give awareness to the indispensable role of workers in society. But everyday is and should be worker’s day, because everyday, the blood and sweat of industrial workers make commodities for the people and the service workers and the informal sector help make these commodities accessible. But their labor results in staggering profits pocketed by the bloodsucking imperialists.
As its neocolony, US imperialism ties the Philippines to perpetual poverty, underdevelopment and dependence on imports. This provides its giant parasitic corporations cheap and readily available labor, cheap and extractable raw materials, and a captive market for its overpriced goods.
It nurtures a bureaucrat capitalist elite to plunder the national treasury in exchange for the protection of its imperialist interests. This elite represented mainly by the US-Marcos regime has actively implemented the US imperialist agenda to facilitate the gradual depreciation of the agricultural sector, the imminent collapse of our fishing industry, the devastation of our environment, and has imposed pro-imperialist education that hastens the denigration and deterioration of our own culture. Then, it sends the mercenary fascist military on killing rampages to oppress and repress people who aspire for change.
US imperialism makes the Philippines its own giant military base in its war preparations for hegemony in the Pacific. As part of the First Island Chain, it makes Filipinos targets and cannon fodder in inter-imperialist wars. Already, the energy crisis created by its ongoing war of aggression against Iran has plunged our already impoverished people into deeper poverty and hardship.
Workers can improve their situation only by ending US imperialist control of our country. The Revolutionary Council of Trade Unions (RCTU), a member-organization of the NDFP, advances the NDFP 12-point program which upholds the a neutral foreign policy, the nationalist industrialization and agrarian reform, environmental protection and the establishment of a truly democratic and pro-people government. The proletariat, as the most advanced class in history, should unite and push forward the national democratic movement in the struggle against imperialism, feudalism and bureaucrat capitalism.
We call upon the working class movement to go beyond militant unionism into the revolutionary political struggle of the people’s war, and to fill the countryside with proletarian cadres, commanders and fighters of the New People’s Army. The victory of the people’s war is a victory of the Filipino workers and the Filipino people, and a contribution to the victory of the workers of the world against imperialism.
