Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) soldiers carried out relentless attacks and fascist assaults on Negros Island over the past month. Numerous cases of human rights violations were recorded during their focused and sustained military operations (FSMO) in many villages.
In Negros Occidental, 94th IB soldiers encamped in the church and residents’ houses in Carabalan, Himamaylan City on September 19. The military troops stayed in the center of the community in the sitios of Kasipungan, Florete, and Namugsokng for six days.
In the first week of October, the 94th IB occupied the sitios of Bonton, Medel, Sig-ang, Ortiz, Kambuongon, Tugas, and Cunalom. They encamped in these sitios public buildings, including schools.
These actions extremely terrorized and traumatized residents. Some of them were illegally and baselessly summoned by soldiers for interrogation. Soldiers also threatened the lives and safety of residents who refused to cooperate with the 94th IB. The military and CAFGU intimidated and arbitrarily evicted one family from their home in Sitio Pangi.
On October 7, the 94th IB raided the a farmer’s house in Sitio Manluki, Barangay Carabalan. They accused the family of storing New People’s Army (NPA) weapons. The soldiers also stole a cellphone belonging to the family.
In Toboso town, 79th IB soldiers forcibly entered and ransacked two farmers’ homes. Raids were also reported in the homes of farmers in Sitio Tagaytay, Barangay Tabun-ac, and in Sitio Timpag, Barangay Bandila on October 11.
In Negros Oriental, 62nd IB soldiers entered a farmer’s house in Barangay Trinidad on October 3. No one was in the house because the family stayed there only when not working on their farm. The soldiers occupied it without permission.
In Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, five trucks filled with soldiers from Barangay Bulado were deployed to the villages of Binobohan and Tacpao.
The 62nd IB also reportedly encamped in community centers, churches, and schools while conducting operations in Barangay Sandayao and Barangay Calupa-an in Guihulngan City, Barangay Budlasan in Canlaon City, and Barangay Macagahay, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental.
