Youth group condemns US ammunition storage plan in Ilocos Norte

The Kabataan Partylist (KPL)-Ilocos Norte strongly condemned the plan to build an American troops’ ammunition storage at Camp Cape Bojeador in Burgos, Ilocos Norte, concurrent with the establishment of an ammunition factory in Subic.

The group said these projects will not bring peace nor progress to the Filipino people. By using communities as storage for their materiel, the US is dragging Filipinos deeper into the war between the US and China.

The Marcos regime uses the rotten pretext that such US projects benefit the economy and national security, showing that it only blindly follows the dictates of its US imperialist master, according to the group.

“We fear that the ammunition produced and stored here will be used against Filipinos themselves—fueling counter-insurgency operations and worsening human rights violations in the region. This will also make our communities a military target for rival superpowers of the US,” explained KPL-Ilocos Norte.

“We call on Ilocano youth and all peace-loving citizens to stand up for our rights and sovereignty, and oppose all threats of dragging us into the US’s war of aggression,” the group added.
