A sure sign that the Arroyo regime and its coterie of “trapos” have really become morally bankrupt is the attempt to harness the services of clerico-fascist Romeo Intengan to forge a covenant among political parties for a so-called moral revolution against corruption. It’s like harnessing Goebbels to form a truth commission!
It should be remembered that, aside from his dubious credential as father-confessor of Mrs. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the Rev. Romeo Intengan, together with his disciple National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales, is the mastermind in holding anti-communist seminars among military and police officers that equate progressive legal activists with the underground New People’s Army (NPA), thereby turning these unarmed civilians into targets for assassination.
Intengan and Gonzales provided the military and police with the ideological justification for conducting extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, torture, and the massive dislocation of communities in the countryside, against people whom they claim to be communists and thus, in their twisted logic, without any right to live or be human beings.
Intengan and Gonzales like to call themselves social-democrats. But in truth they are nothing more than clerico-fascists in the mode of Franco’s Falangists in Spain.
They are hypocrites who love to talk about freedom and democracy but are so intolerant of the views of others, are facile in telling lies and fabricating stories, and have no qualms in getting innocent civilians killed. They are devoid of principles except for their pathological fear and hatred of communism. A simple reading of the program of the so-called Partido Demokratiko Sosyalista ng Pilipinas (PDSP) would reveal their moral bankruptcy which fits perfectly well in the corrupt, cruel and immoral Arroyo regime.
I know the caliber of Fr. Intengan. We spent some time together in prison during the Marcos dictatorship. From the first day, he treated me like a plague. I found that odd for a priest, especially after I had warned him through his friends of danger to his life after he had provoked the ire of criminal detainees for asking the prison guards to padlock the latter in their buildings so that he could jog.
Filipinos would recognize Fr. Intengan as Fr. Sivila in Rizal’s El Filibusterismo who pretends to be holy but is selfish and has a criminal mind.
