Workers, urban poor, and youth launched coordinated protests in Metro Manila and various parts of the Philippines on November 14. These were part of the Black Friday protests that will culminate in a demonstration in Luneta on November 30, to be led by the Kilusang Bayan Kontra Kurakot (People’s Movement Against Corruption).
“With the onslaught of disasters, the Marcos government’s incompetence in addressing calamities became even more evident,” Kilusang Mayo Uno said. Workers marched toward Mendiola together with other sectors. They called on the youth and workers to rise from crisis and corruption.
Alongside the Mendiola march, at least 10 unions held “rise up protests” on the same day.
In Cabuyao, Laguna, two shifts of workers under the Nexperia Philippines Inc. Workers Union gathered for a “rise up” protest.
At the Canlubang Industrial Estate in Laguna, the Wyeth Philippines Progressive Workers Union led the “rise up” protest after the workers’ shift. Workers there continue to act against stingy capitalists and corrupt bureaucrats.
In Cavite, workers at the First Cavite Industrial Estate came out under the leadership of the Progressive Workers Union Local 47-IBM KMU.
In Valenzuela City, workers from the Vanson Paper Industrial Workers Union and the United Workers Association in Regan carried out two separate “rise up” protests.
In Pasig City, workers from the Unity of Workers at Himmel held a protest.
In Pasay City, the Supervisors’ Union Guide in PLDT Telecommunications gathered to launch their own “rise up” protest. They wore black shirts.
In Quezon City, workers from Glowhrain KMU-Kowloon House West Chapter mounted a “rise up” protest in front of their workplace. “Workers are roasted in service, but the government is only stringing them along!” they said.
In Manila, workers at the port led by the Cargo Forwarder Labor Union rose up from the flood of corruption and poverty. They held their protest after work hours.
Workers from 4E Builders in Caloocan City also staged their “rise up” protest after work.
“Our continued unity can ensure that the corrupt in government will be held accountable – along with the number one syndicate masterminds: Bongbong Marcos and Sara Duterte,” the KMU said.
