The fascist chieftain of #DiMasaligan79IB, Lt. Col. Arnel Caloagan, recently issued a brazen-faced denial of his unit’s connection to the notorious intelligence assets punished by the NPA in the last few months.
Although expected, such denial is a telltale sign of his heightened state of desperation to score propaganda points amid the series of battlefield failures his battalion sustained and its over-all inability to quell the resurgence of the NPA and the revolutionary movement in Northern Negros now being reinvigorated by the Third Rectification Movement initiated by the Communist Party of the Philipines (CPP).
It can be recalled that on March 18, several columns of fascist soldiers failed to crush a small unit of RJPC-NPA in Sitio Bairan, General Luna, Toboso, Negros Occidental. The said guerilla unit managed to stage a counter-offensive inflicting several casualties on attacking fascist soldiers, including two dead and three wounded and without suffering any casualty of its own.
A few weeks after, RJPC-NPA punished #DiMasaligan79IB’s trusted intelligence asset within the vicinity where the battle took place that was supposedly “cleared” by military and police forces.
The following #DiMasaligan79IB’s campaign to pursue, encircle and suppress the NPA ended up in resounding failure.
RJPC-NPA was also able to conduct several punitive offensive operations in town and city near Bacolod City, the provincial capital.
In this context, Calaoagan is desperate to score propaganda points. He is desperate enough to point of throwing his own intelligence assets under the bus. In doing so, Calaoagan is exposing the true nature of military leadership who treated ordinary foot soldiers and assets as cannon fodder and dispensable toll that can be thrown away anytime like a waste piece of cloth for whatever nefarious purposes they can contrive.
What Calaoagan deliberately omitted in his statement is that the people punished by RJPC-NPA are publicly known intelligece assets who served as guides in military operations and has been red tagging, intimidating and survelling the masses for years in the course of their participation in military’s dirty war.
Aside from espionage, they perpetrated heinous crimes like murder, rape, robbery and like. Their punishment was a welcome relief to the masses.
To project them as plain civilians “senselessly killed” by the NPA is a patent lie and do not correspond to the actual facts in the field.
Small wonder why scores of intelligence assets or even some of their regular handlers are turning to the NPA for redemption and reform.
