The only path to genuine sovereignty is the victory of the people’s democratic revolution

NDFP Statement on the FFPS-led action in support of the Philippine revolution

The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) extends its firmest solidarity and appreciation to the Friends of the Filipino People in Struggle (FFPS) and all organizations and individuals participating in the globally coordinated mobilizations in support of the Filipino people’s struggle for national and social liberation. This month marks the 52nd founding anniversary of the NDFP – an opportune time to reaffirm and amplify the call for support for the Filipino people’s revolutionary struggle. As we commemorate more than five decades of advancing the people’s democratic revolution, we take strength and inspiration from the solidarity actions being carried out by FFPS and other revolutionary supporters.

These mobilizations come at a critical time—when imperialist wars are engulfing entire regions and nations, and with the Asia-Pacific at the flashpoint. The Philippines, due to its strategic location and its status as a neocolony of US imperialism, is being dragged to the center of a brewing war of aggression instigated by the United States against its imperialist rival China.

The US is feverishly working to fortify its military arsenal and guarantee its permanent presence on Philippine soil. Through the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA), the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA), the Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT), and with the ongoing Balikatan military exercises, the US is converting the Philippines into a forward base for its war of aggression in the region. It uses the maritime dispute between the Philippines and as pretext to justify warmongering and provoke armed confrontation.

We strongly condemn the Marcos Jr. regime for its shameless servility to US imperialist interests. By allowing the expansion of EDCA sites and the permanent presence of US military forces and war materiel on Philippine territory, it has turned the country into a virtual garrison of the US Indo-Pacific command. The regime has opened the floodgates for the forward deployment of weapons, logistical networks, and foreign troops, laying the groundwork for the Philippines to be used as cannon fodder in the event of US-provoked conflict in the region.

Worse, the same training programs, arms, and financial resources funneled by the US government into the fascist Armed Forces of the Philippines are directly used in Marcos Jr.’s bloody counterrevolutionary war against the Filipino people – a war that violates every known principle that protect civilians under international humanitarian law. This includes indiscriminate military attacks against peasant and indigenous communities, enforced disappearances, red-tagging, and political killings—all aimed at crushing legitimate democratic resistance and upholding the rule of the local ruling elite.

The Filipino people are not alone in this fight. Across the globe, other peoples are waging just struggles against occupation, repression, and imperialist domination such as in India, East Bengal, Bangladesh, and Palestine. Like the Philippines, Palestine is a nation fighting for national and social liberation against a foreign-backed occupying force. The US imperialist state is the primary financier and enabler of the Zionist Israeli occupation, providing billions in military aid that fuels relentless bombardment, ethnic cleansing, and genocide. Just as Filipino revolutionaries confront a puppet regime acting in the interests of a foreign master, Palestinians endure the systematic destruction of their homeland, lives, and future under the boot of an apartheid settler state. In both struggles, imperialism is the common enemy, and the yearning for genuine liberation, land, and justice is the shared cause.

This is a clear pattern of US imperialist tactics: instigating proxy wars and regional destabilization to achieve geopolitical dominance and secure its economic and military interests. The same blueprint is visible in Europe, where the US—through NATO—has stoked conflict and destruction, using Ukraine as a proxy in its confrontation with Russia. NATO, which was established after the second World War to halt the spread of communist influence in Europe, has since evolved into a US-led military alliance of imperialist countries bent on sowing chaos, suppressing peoples’ resistance, and punishing states that dare assert their sovereignty.

The NDFP calls on all of its forces wherever they are to join the planned protest actions of the FFPS and allied formations against the upcoming NATO summit in the Netherlands this year. These mobilizations are timely and necessary in exposing NATO as a tool of US imperialism to dominate and destabilize nations and entire regions to their bidding. The NATO alliance has long abandoned any pretense of “defense” and now operates as an aggressive war machine used to crush sovereign nations, suppress progressive movements, and enforce the global dictates of monopoly capitalism. As it plots new strategies of destruction in its summit halls, we welcome the voices of resistance on the streets—voices that demand justice for the people from Palestine, to the Philippines, and all other nations devastated by imperialist war. We urge all anti-imperialist, peace-loving, and democratic forces in Europe and across the globe to support and join these actions to condemn NATO’s crimes and amplify the people’s struggles for genuine sovereignty.

As for the Filipino people, their clearest path to genuine sovereignty is through advancing the people’s war being waged by the New People’s Army under the absolute leadership of the Communist Party of the Philippines. Only through revolutionary armed struggle can we decisively dismantle the US-controlled semicolonial and semifeudal system, and unshackle the nation from the stranglehold of imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism.

The NDFP calls on all its allied organizations, Filipino migrants, internationalist formations, and peace advocates around the world to resolutely support the national democratic revolution. Only by toppling US imperialist domination and uprooting its local agents—the comprador bourgeoisie and big landlords—can we lay the foundations for a genuine people’s democratic government and achieve a socialist future.

Resist imperialist wars!
Long live international solidarity!
