Ang Bayan Ngayon » Progressive groups protest anew at the Senate against bureaucrat capitalism

Progressive groups led by Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan, or New Patriotic Alliance) launched another protest at the Senate in Pasay City on June 1. They demanded that all those involved in corruption in government be held accountable and jailed. They slammed the infighting among senators led by the pro-Duterte bloc.

The group condemned attempts by senators to protect Vice President Sara Duterte from being tried for impeachment, to shelter fugitive butcher Sen. Bato dela Rosa, and to defend corrupt senators. The group specifically condemned the collusion of majority bloc senators to change Senate rules for their own gain.

“This is a shameless bid to enable impunity and make the Senate a sanctuary for its corrupt members and recidivist human rights violators,” the group said. Senators are reportedly ignoring the people’s demand for truth, accountability, and justice.

According to Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU, or May 1 Movement), Filipino workers are fed up with the blatant abuse of power by senators and top government officials and with the bureaucrat-capitalist system. It said Ferdinand Marcos Jr himself leads this rotten system.

Marcos runs the government like a big business and lets criminals escape from their posts. “He is the king of the corrupt and killers,” it emphasized.

KMU said it will lead sustained actions of workers and the people until all those responsible for the people’s suffering are held accountable. “And until the bureaucrat-capitalist system is completely overthrown,” it concluded.
