Philippine revolutionary forces declare unilateral ceasefire

Starting 12:01 this morning, all units of the New People's Army (NPA) have suspended offensive military operations nationwide.

According to the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP), the unilateral ceasefire will last up to the 11:59 in the evening of December 26. Offensive military operations of the NPA will be suspended again on 12:01 a.m., December 31, and will last up to 11:59 p.m., January 1.

The NDFP issued the pronouncement together with the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP). According to the NDFP, the unilateral ceasefire is being undertaken as an act of goodwill and respect for the people’s traditional holidays.

The unilateral ceasefire also aims to allow more peaceful conditions for the revolutionary forces’ celebration of the CPP’s 41st founding anniversary on December 26. At various dates during this holiday period, mass assemblies will be held in the more than 120 guerrilla fronts across the country to celebrate the victories attained by the revolutionary movement this year and in the past years, and look forward to more victories in the coming years.

The national-democratic revolutionary movement in the Philippines is seeking to advance to the next higher stage in the next few years the people’s war it has renewed and reinvigorated in the last 41 years.
