Philippine armed forces terrorize Mindanao calamity victims

The Communist Party of the Philippines today denounced the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for targeting victims of typhoon Pablo who have benefited from the assistance extended by the New People’s Army and persons mobilized by the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and its allied organizations.

According to a report from NDFP-Southern Mindanao, elements of the 67th Infantry Battalion arrested and detained civilian Pablito Gubaton, a purok chairman of Sitio Bangas, Barangay (village) Mainit, Cateel town. The military accused Gubaton of receiving relief packs from the New People’s Army. He was released only after eight hours of tactical interrogation.

“The AFP wants to sow intrigue against well-meaning groups and individuals who have extended assistance to the calamity victims by trying to maliciously link them to the revolutionary armed movement,” said the CPP.

“Clearly, the so-called ‘humanitarian efforts’ of the AFP are nothing but a hypocritical show,” said the CPP. “The AFP has been using ‘relief and rehabilitation’ as a smokescreen for its brutal and unremitting Oplan Bayanihan war of suppression.”
