NDFP welcomes withdrawal of notice of suspension of the JASIG, calls on GRP to oppose foreign interference

On behalf of the National Executive Committee of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP), I hereby confirm that the NDFP has received the letter dated 2 September 2005 from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP), informing the NDFP of the GRP’s withdrawal of the “notice of suspension” of the Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees (JASIG) issued last August 3, 2005.

On behalf of the National Executive Committee of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP), I hereby confirm that the NDFP has received the letter dated 2 September 2005 from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP), informing the NDFP of the GRP’s withdrawal of the “notice of suspension” of the Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees (JASIG) issued last August 3, 2005.
The NDFP welcomes the said withdrawal, which takes immediate effect upon the date of the GRP letter. As a consequence, the GRP ceases to cast doubt on the entitlement of duly-authorized persons in the peace negotiations to safety and immunity guarantees under the JASIG and the Comprehensive Agreement on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CAHRIHL).
The NDFP is pleased that the GRP reaffirms the mutually acceptable principle of national sovereignty in The Hague Joint Declaration. In this regard, we urge the GRP to oppose foreign interference and to call on the US and other foreign governments to refrain from acts that impede or impair the peace negotiations. These acts include the so-called terrorist listing of the Communist Party of the Philippines,the New People’s Army and the NDFP chief political consultant to the peace negotiation by said governments.
As regards to venue, date, agenda and mutual ceasefire of short duration, related to resumption and as gesture of goodwill, all these can be further discussed directly by GRP and NDFP representatives, with the assistance of the Royal Norwegian Government as Third Party Facilitator, in due time taking into account the readiness and convenience of the three parties concerned.
