The Workers' Party of Belgium salutes the cadres and members of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) at the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Party's re-establishment. It is a time to celebrate the successes of the past, to be proud of the accumulated strength of the Philippine revolutionary movement and to pay tribute to the heroes and martyrs of the struggle.

The CPP was established on the ideological principles of Marx, Lenin and Mao Zedong after a thorough study of the country's history, economy and society and a critique of erroneous ideas in the Philippine revolutionary movement. It has always upheld these basic principles and has builded strong links with toiling masses, which explains why it was able to brave the hardships and repression of the Marcos dictatorship and the subsequent regimes of US-backed presidents.

The general political line of the national democratic revolution was translated by the CPP into concrete strategies and more tactical calls that proved to be generally correct in the given circumstances and historical conditions. The CPP chose to wage protracted people's war in the countryside, where revolutionary land reform is carried out and organs of political power are being set up. Meanwhile, it is building the united front as another weapon to defeat the enemy and advance the revolution.

Organizationally, the CPP has always adhered to the Leninist party principles. The correct application of democratic centralism has proven to be a key principle to make the Party more effective in its vanguard role to lead the masses in the national and democratic revolution.

We are especially grateful for many CPP's contributions to the international communist movement and the anti-imperialist united front. The CPP's example has given hope and strength to revolutionaries allover the world who have taken notice of the Party's advances.

It is a source of pride for us that we can join the CPP in celebrating its 40th anniversary. We are looking forward to our further solidarity in the struggle for socialism.

Long live the Communist Party of the Philippines!

Long live the Philippine new democratic revolution!

Long live international solidarity!
