Kommunistiska Partiet message on the 45th anniversary of the New People’s Army

Dear Comrades,

We wish to convey our revolutionary greetings to the Philippine revolutionary movement as You celebrate the 45 th anniversary of the establishment of the New People’s army.

The New People’s Army led by the Communist Party of the Philippines has during its existence played a crucial role in the Philippine national and social revolution. The New People’s Army is also a source of inspiration for revolutionary movements worldwide.

In Sweden we have highlighted the disaster after the typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan last November. This event confirms that the prevailing semi-colonial and semifeudal system in the Philippines, now under the political leadership of President Benigno Aquino III, is completely ignoring the people’s needs. The regime is even utilizing the disatser to expel people for confiscating desirable land.

But the disaster also shows that it is the revolutionary movement, including the New People’s Army, who defends the interests of the people. It is the revolutionary movement which engages and put all its energy into saving lives and to make it possible for residents to return to their normal lives.

The situation in the Philippines is very different from the reality in Sweden, a highly developed industrial country. But our two countries are part of the same global capitalist system where we have to fight against both domestic class enemies and imperialism.

In Sweden, the Communist Party is facing a busy political year, with the sham elections to the parliament of the imperialist project European Union in May as well as elections to the national and local parliaments in September.

The Communist Party will stand for the local elections in the cities where we are strong enough to come forward and provide the workers and progressive people an alternative.

But the most important task for the Communist Party is to use this politicized climate to strengthen the party. A strong marxist-leninist party is necessary if we should be able to advance the struggle in our country and thereby make our contribution to strengthen the international communist and revolutionary movement.
