Christians for National Liberation-Compatriots (CNL-Compatriots) was successfully established in October in the US. The chapter is the first sub-sector under Compatriots that organized a global assembly.
The assembly gathered around 120 faith leaders from different CNL-Compatriots chapters and cells, together with observers from Compatriots-National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDF), Kabataang Makabayan-Compatriots, MAKIBAKA-Compatriots, and others. CNL-Compatriots chapters in various countries also held simultaneous gatherings.
The assembly discussed the Compatriots congress held this year and the progress of the revolutionary movement among Filipino migrants. The congress also paid tribute to Ka Louie Jalandoni, a CNL founder and former NDFP chief negotiator.
Chapters of NDFP organizations in different countries expressed solidarity. The CNL leader in the Philippines also conveyed greetings. According to CNL, progressive church movements hold a critical duty as witnesses to the people’s struggle and as contributors to advancing the people’s war in the Philippines.
On the assembly’s second day, participants studied and discussed organizational documents, including orientation, program, three-year plan, and campaigns. They also held an election and formed an executive committee and council for the CNL-Compatriots chapter in the US, as well as a global executive committee and council.
The activity concluded with an evening of faith reflection and celebration. Participants and observers pledged their resolve to advance the people’s war in the Philippines. CNL-Compatriots reaffirmed its commitment to its mission to be among the poor and the oppressed.
