Aquino government, AFP violate ceasefire in Mindoro

CPP blasts AFP ceasefire violations in Mindoro

By CPP Information Bureau

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today blasted the Philippine Army's 80th Infantry Batallion assigned in Mindoro for its sheer disregard of the current ceasefire agreement between the armies of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP).

In their agreement, a ceasefire between the New People's Army and the military, paramilitary and police forces of the government began from the first minute of 16 December 2010 to the last minute of 3 January 2011.

The CPP said that the 80th IB's commanding officer never meant what he said when he declared that his unit would respect the ceasefire agreement.

"Instead, Lt. Col Roger Percol treacherously deployed his forces to strike against a unit of the NPA that was visiting a house in Sitio Upper Balading, Bgy. Bayotbot, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro. At midnight last Thursday, forces of the 80th IB assaulted the house. To avoid the residents being hit in an exchange of gunfire, the NPA forces did not retaliate and simply took cover and immediately left through gaps in the encirclement operation."

In another ceasefire violation by the 801st IB, Christian Bascos, an NPA member who was visiting his girlfriend, was arrested together with two of his comrades who were also planning to visit their families and have medical checkups.

"They thought that the other side would really keep their word and respect the terms of the ceasefire," the CPP said.
