The Chairman of the Human Rights Monitoring Committee of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP-MC) today chided GRP Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita Deles for following in the footsteps of Norberto Gonzales in dishing out disinformation about the New People’s Army (NPA) in an attempt to derail the resumption of the formal talks in the peace negotiations between the NDFP and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP).
“For the past several months, Deles has been talking about the resumption of the formal peace talks in the GRP-NDFP peace negotiations. But at every turn she dishes out lies and disinformation such as that the NDFP has not responded to her ghost emissaries, or that the NDFP is 'imposing preconditions' to the resumption of the formal talks, or that the NPA is continuing with its tactical offensives – as if the GRP armed forces have stopped their massive military operations in the countryside, especially in Mindanao and the Visayas, in pursuit of Oplan Bantay Laya 2,” Agcaoili said.
“Now she repeats the lies of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on the ambush conducted by the NPA against a heavily-armed unit of the PNP in Catarman, Samar, saying that such act of war against an obviously legitimate military target 'strains' the peace talks,” Agcaoili added.
“The Information Bureau of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) has already debunked the false claims of the PNP and Deles on the ambush. Indeed, the heavily armed unit of the PNP was disabled with the use of a legitimate command-detonated explosive. And its personnel had refused to heed the call of the NPA to surrender and decided instead to do battle with the NPA by firing their weapons.”
“For the information of Ms. Deles, what strains the resumption of formal talks in the GRP-NDFP peace negotiations are the lies and disinformation that she has been dishing out,” Agcaoili stressed.
“Deles has hit the ground running in attempting to derail the resumption of the GRP-NDFP peace negotiations with all sorts of excuses and disinformation. She's no different from the clerico-fascist Norberto Gonzales in wanting to destroy the revolutionary movement with empty talk about peace talks and then waging war according to the so-called US counterinsurgency guide,” Agcaoili said.
“The NPA abides by international conventions on the conduct of war. No amount of disinformation from Deles would alter this fact. The only way to start talking is by talking in earnest and not lying and making false accusations,” Agcaoili concluded.
